Summer is here and everyone is excited to relax, go to the beach, and let their hair down. But with the heat of the season comes its effects on our hair, making it dry and more prone to damage. So here are a few of the best home remedies for dry and frizzy hair.

Use ingredients from your kitchen

It may seem unusual, but there are things in your kitchen that can help keep your hair healthy. It has been proven that avocado mixed with coconut or olive oil will help keep the moisture in your hair. Keep the pureed avocado on your hair for 15 minutes with a shower cap then rinse with lukewarm water. You can also mix the avocado with mayonnaise, jojoba oil, or even wheat-germ oil.

Avoid too much shampoo

Since the temperature is higher than usual, you may get the urge to wash your hair more often. However, this causes your hair to lose its natural oils. It is best to use mild shampoo on your scalp every other day, giving it more time to produce and keep the moisture. Just rinse thoroughly with warm water to avoid stripping the hair of its protective oils, making it more prone to damage.

Keep yourself hydrated

If your body is well hydrated, your hair will also be hydrated. Since you will be losing fluids due to the heat, you would need to replace them with ample amounts of water keeping you and your hair healthy.

Learn the proper brushing technique

Never use a brush when your hair is wet, instead use a wide-toothed comb (preferably natural), to get rid of tangles. The best way to do it is to start from the bottom, making your way up to the roots to prevent pulling the tangles and damaging your hair. Once you are rid of the tangles, you can comb your hair from the roots down.

Protect your hair from the sun

Prevention is better than cure. Avoid too much sun exposure when going out by wearing a cap or using an umbrella. Then use a swimming cap when you’re in the pool to keep chlorine from absorbing into your hair.
